For 20 years, The Spotted Dog has been located in the heart of historic downtown Carrboro, always locally family-owned. We offer a wide array of choices, satisfying most dietary needs.
While we serve a little bit of everything, we are well known for carrying an eclectic mix of vegan and vegetarian options. Whether you are looking for something a little spicy, such as our hugely popular Flautas, or just some good old fashioned comfort food, such as our Veggie BBQ, we've got what you are craving! In addition, we have separate fryers AND cooktops to keep our meat separate from our meat-free items.
Spotted Dog has been “green” from the start. We recycle everything, including bottles, cans, cardboard, paper products, cooking oil and we compost our food waste. We use compostable to-go containers, cups, utensils, and drinking straws. Even when we were remodeling the space, we chose to refinish existing materials and refurbish older equipment instead of trashing it all and adding more to the landfill. Spotted Dog generates very little trash, which is a good thing when you are located on an island!
Located in the Flat-Iron Building, built some time around 1915, quite literally at the center of downtown, there's lots of history at the Spotted Dog. The building has been everything from a drug store, to a shoe shop, to the town post office and more. The original tin ceiling tiles are still in place. A unique location with a rich history!
We have steadily been nominated and/or won over the years in The Indy's Best of the Triangle. For everything from Best Veggie Wings, Best Bloody Mary, to Best Veggie Burger.
